| Title: | Block Periods and Federal Law 26-3 |
| Decision Date | April, 28, 2026 |
In light of the Wheaton High School block day schedule for April 28th and 29th, a question has arisen to the interpretation to of federal law 26-3 of the Knights of Dalewood Constitution: “Every citizen of the United Knights of Dalewood shall receive a snack if nobody uses a phone in Law class for five consecutive school days”.
The plaintiff’s argument is that block days, in which only one of the two law classes is present, should each count as a full day. Compared to the defendant’s argument in which the day does not qualify for the purposes of achieving snacks if one class is not present.
While the plaintiff’s argument is not unreasonable, there are several questions that must first be answered. Is student presence a requirement for a law class to have occurred? For example, if an entire class chooses to skip one day, and the law teacher presents a lesson to no one, would that still count as a full day? Additionally, during our discussion, the student representative for the United Knights of Dalewood argued that under this law, both Law classes should be viewed as a collective instead of two individual groups. Therefore, if one-half of the participants are not instructed, the criteria for all law students to have participated in a lesson without using their phones has not been met. It is for these reasons, that in my authority as Supreme Kirk I have chosen to side with the defendant. For a day to be considered completed for purposes of earning snacks in accordance with federal law 26-3, all Law classes must have occurred within an 8 hour period; block days will count as one-half a day.
In the future, if there are block days in which both classes occur, those may be considered a full day. However block days when less than the total number of law classes are being taught shall be considered one half a day. If no periods of law are taught on a block day, that day will not count at all for the purposes of achieving snacks.
Sincerely,
Supreme Kirk; Mr. Wishart
